Description

LED SOLAR POWERED WASP, HORNET AND SMALL HIVE BEETLE TRAP

This useful tool in your beekeeping arsenal is a great defence against the common Wasp, Hornets and Small Hive Beetles (SHB) that a beekeeper might encounter near their beehive. This double entry trap is powered by a solar panel located on top which charges a rechargeable battery supply. This eliminates an ultra-violet (UV) light during the night attracting insects into the trap. This trap goes further where a lure can be added within the trap to attract insects such as wasps, hornets and the dreaded SHB during the day.

Wasp Lure Recipe 1

  • 1 teaspoon jam
  • 100ml warm water
  • Few drops of dishwashing liquid/detergent

Mix well and place inside the trap.

Wasp Lure Recipe 2

  • Apple Juice
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Few drops of dishwashing liquid/detergent

Wasp Lure Recipe 3

  • Sugar Drink/Soda/Soft Drink (i.e Coke or similar containing high sugar)

Small Hive Beetle Lure Recipe

Small Hive Beetle (SHB) lure recipes that can be used:

  • 2 x Tbsp of granulated sugar
  • 1 x Tbsp of honey
  • 1 x tsp yeast powder
  • 1 x 250ml warm water

With all of the above recipes, mix well and hang in a shaded area, off the ground at a height at least 1.5 meters off the ground. If possible, place in a location between 20 and 100 meters from your beehives so that if it attracts visiting insects; that it attracts them away from your hives.

Useless toy

Followed instructions to the letter and in the week I have had it, have caught one month, despite wasps buzzing around. Very disappointed.
