At Buzzbee we believe in providing quality resources that will not only educate but also highlight the latest research put into practice that is relevant to you as a beekeeper. This book, The Australian Beekeeping Manual (3rd Edition) is the most comprehensive reference for both novice and experienced beekeepers in Australia.

The accessible yet detailed text, supported by over 350 full-colour photographs and illustrations, covers all the key areas, including:

  • the beekeeping equipment needed,
  • how to obtain bees,
  • the bee-friendly garden,
  • entering honey in competitions
  • pest and diseases
  • native bees,
  • rearing queens,
  • where to locate them in the garden,
  • and the basics of colony management

A feature of this 3rd edition is the addition of a new chapter on the Flow Hive. The result is an invaluable beekeeping resource that will be referred to time and again, and which can be taken out to the hive for use as an immediate step-by-step guide or read at leisure.

  • The ultimate Australian reference source – the most comprehensive and detailed. Ever.
  • Step-by-step instructions are supported by over 350 photographs and drawings that explain in detail the steps needed for successful colony management.
  • This 2nd edition includes a new chapter on the Flow Hive.
  • Includes a chapter on native bees, the unacknowledged pollinators of Australia.
  • Includes information on bumblebees, European wasps and the Asian Honey Bee, all three of which are found in Australia but which are not covered in other Australian beekeeping books in any detail.
  • Pre-emptive text includes information on major threats to honey bee health that have not yet been found in Australia but which are already widespread in Asia, North America and Europe (e.g. Varroa mite).
  • Self-contained chapters mean the book can be dipped into as a quick reference or read from beginning to end.
  • The only beekeeping book published globally that includes a comprehensive chapter on how to enter honey in competition.

Robert Owen was for many years the owner of Bob’s Beekeeping Supplies, before selling the business in order to pursue related interests. Currently he is completing a PhD in honey bee diseases, while working as an aid agency volunteer teaching beekeeping, queen rearing and honey processing.

We're so impressed with this book. More of a text book really, but easier to read.
We have just purchased a 20 acre hobby farm on which we want to grow lavender. Everything we researched told us lavender is a bee magnet, so we thought why not keep our own bees. But wait a minute, not knowing much about farming, and even less about bee keeping, we went in search of information and stumbled across The Australian Beekeeping Manual - Latest 2nd edition.
The more we read the more confident we become.
Well written and wonderful photos makes for an easy and informative read.
